Microfinance organizations in Kazakhstan are ahead of banks in terms of lending growth

 

The loan portfolio of microfinance organizations for a year and a half (from the beginning of 2018) increased by 64.6% and amounted to 267.4 billion tenge at the end of the second quarter of 2019, ranking.kz writes .

Over the past quarter, growth reached 10.8%, on average, for a year and a half, quarterly growth was 8.7%.

For comparison: the loan portfolio of the second-tier banks of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the same period increased only by 0.4%, to 13.6 trillion tenge, the growth for the second quarter was 4.6%, while the average quarterly growth since 2018 was 0.1 %

Note that the quarterly growth of overdue loans from MFIs amounted to 7.5%, up to 18.7 billion tenge. Overdue loans of second-tier banks, on the contrary, decreased by 4%, to 2 trillion tenge.

At the same time, the most dangerous loans overdue for more than 90 days in the last quarter decreased precisely in microfinance organizations - by 1.4%, to 8.5 billion tenge. In the second-tier banks for the same period, “toxic” loans NPL 90+ immediately increased by 14%, up to 1.3 trillion tenge.

Thus, the proportion of overdue loans from MFIs for the second quarter of 2019 decreased from 7.2% to 7%, overdue over 90 days - from 3.6% to 3.2%.

In STBs, the share of overdue loans decreased from 15.7% to 14.4%, the share of NPL over 90 days, on the contrary, increased from 8.6% to 9.4%.

Retail loans prevail in the microfinance portfolio of MFIs: 262.1 billion tenge, an increase over the quarter by 10.8%. The proportion of overdue loans on them decreased from 7.2% to 6.9%. Note that in spite of the fact that these are retail loans, some of them are issued for entrepreneurial purposes.

Microloans issued to legal entities make up only 5.2 billion tenge, growth for the quarter - by 14.9%. The share of overdue loans in this segment increased from 10.1% to 14.9%.
